Color Coded Music

I tend to circle a lot of things in my music. Which begs the question: what does each circle mean?! I have no clue, most times I just ignore them.

So I’ve been using a highlighter to help draw my attention to things on the page. I color code. So I might highlight all dynamic and expression markings in pink, or highlight all tempo specific markings in yellow, then use another color for everything or things that need attention (easily missed accidentals, etc.).

This works really well to remind me to do things. It’s really quick and easy to do, and is great to do right when starting to work on a piece to remind yourself to incorporate expression and tempo markings from day one.

NOTE: this concept was blatantly stolen from the Music Teacher’s Helper Blog at some point.
