Monday Motivation: Pears Edition

“For a man to achieve all that is demanded of him, he must regard himself as greater than he is”
-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Today we feature a recording of Julian Bream with Peter Pears. For those who don’t know, Peter Pears is a tenor with whom Benjamin Britten worked. Britten wrote opera parts with him in mind, for instance, and it was rumored they were romantically involved. I don’t know (and couldn’t find any info) about Pears’ relationship with Bream, but it’s plausible to think that they met through Britten. In any case, this is a 1965 recording with a slideshow of pictures of both performers — a very interesting listen. Here’s a CD of Britten and Pears.

Funny, I just started the chapter on Britten in The Rest Is Noise. Didn’t know Bream played with Pears.
