The Best Fingernail Tool You’ve Never Heard Of

The Best Fingernail Tool You’ve Never Heard Of

Please note: these are out of stock for the foreseeable future. A fingernail buffer should work.

About two months ago, I received a mysterious envelope in the mail. It was from a friend — I recognized the return address label — and inside were four multi-colored, 2″ x 2″ pads. I had no idea what they were.

How Micro Mesh Changed My Life

Before a concert last year, the guy who booked me handed me a set of micro mesh sheets and a foam block to wrap them around.

That’s when I learned that sandpaper, even really high grit sandpaper, sucks for smoothing nails out. Micro-Mesh, however, is amazing. If you’ve ever tried it out, you know that it makes your finger nail edges amazing smooth and noticeably improves tone.

I was hooked — Micro-Mesh was the only tool I was going to use to finish my fingernails from now on.

Turns out those mysterious, multi-colored 2×2 pads my friend sent me were Micro-Mesh — Micro-Mesh on a foam pad.

As mentioned above, Micro-Mesh is amazing, but these pads took it a step further: easy to hold and use, and no extra foam block to keep track of. I called up my friend and asked, “who else knows about these things? Because every guitarist needs to check them out.”

What Other People Said about the Micro Mesh Pads

I ordered several sets of the Micro-Mesh Pads and send them to other guitarists. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Here are a few responses.

Andy Jurik Classical Guitar“The micromesh pads are brilliant. They helped improve the roundness and clarity of my tone far beyond anything I have played with before.”
-Andy Jurik

Seth Guillen Classical Guitar

“I have used every nail product I could get my hands on over the past six years and nothing has performed as consistently for me as the micro-mesh pads. My tone has become fuller, clearer and possesses a depth I’ve not had with other products. The built in cushion makes them more convenient and easier to use than standard micro-mesh and the foam block.”
-Seth Guillen

I had heard of micro mesh a while ago but never got around to trying it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I may have to give it a shot.

I use a Luthier “cloth nail file” (same idea) before performances. Works like a charm! Micro-mesh is great stuff.

Ah yes Micro-Mesh is great for guitarists’ nails!

It’s manufactured by Micro-Surface Finishing Products, Inc who are based in Wilton Iowa.

It’s used around the world… here’s an example (2) from Germany.

Nice to hear you’re distributing Micro-Mesh as well!

I bought a few years ago a small micro mesh kit, and its wonderfull… You cant imagine how sound improves with them… And the best, they last several time… I have almost 3 years with the same package and still working fine…. Highly recommended for every guitarrist…

$3.99 for shipping? How about I send my own SASE! j/k of course. Bud dude!

I bought a nail kit from the Luthier guitar co. It is a similar concept as these micromesh pads, and they still work beautifully after over three years. In my opinion, BEST nail care:

    1) A crystal glass nail file for shaping – they are far less abrasive than metal files or those dollar store emery boards. They are available at StringsByMail.com

    2) Some variety of micromesh pads. In my opinion, the pads work better than the sheets wrapped around a foam block.

The combination of these two will leave your nails healthier, sounding SIGNIFICANTLY better, and breaking far less often.

these micro mesh pads are AMAZING, I was surprised by the instantaneous improvement in tone after I used them for the first time. Please take the next logical step and just combine the 4 pads into one 2 -sided object! Who wants to carry around 4 different pads when they can have all 4-in one???

Just got my Micromesh Pads. Really awesome!! very happy with the way they are finishing off my nails. Infinitely better than the little nail blocks I’ve been using from my pharmacy!

Just wanted to say thanks! 🙂

I’ve used the micromesh for a few years now but I’d LOVE to get my hands on the pads like that. I had a little set that came in a black plastic pack that had a few of the pads but you still had to finish with the regular “paper” style. I tried to order through your link Chris but it says sold out atm?

I would love to try these out! I’m tired of losing all my sandpaper and having it get all bent and crumpled as I carry it around. Any chance you’ll get more in soon?
