Sonia Michelson

is an author and guitarist who teaches music and classical guitar to children, teenagers, and adults. She published Easy Classic Guitar Solos, a folio of ten original compositions with Hansen Publishers in 1976. She established the Michelson Classic Guitar Studio in Los Angeles in 1988. In 2005 Ms. Michelson moved the studio to Ofra, Israel, where she continues to teach children and adults. The last recital was held in May, 2009. In 1991 Mel Bay Publications published her method Mel Bay New Dimensions in Classical Guitar for Children, a unique method based on Kodaly and Suzuki principles. This was followed by Mel Bay re-issuing Easy Classic Guitar Solos for Children and Young Beginners First Repertoire for Classic Guitar. Michelson was co-editor of the Independent Guitar Teacher’s Forum in Soundboard Magazine from 1985 – 1995. Ms. Michelson received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. She has studied Kodaly methodology with Livia Ayal, classical guitar study with Richard Pick and flamenco with Julio de las Reyes. Further studies included early childhood pedagogy with pianist Edna Gurevitz and participation in many Suzuki workshops in Chicago.
